Professor Jackie Ying

Prof. Jackie. Y Ying was named one of the “One Hundred Engineers of the Modern Era” by American Institute of Chemical Engineers  (AIChE) in its Centennial Celebration. She was a recipient of Singapore HEALTH Award (Platinum) 2012, (Gold) 2008 and 2010 Molecular Biology (IUBMB) Jubilee Medal in 2012.

She was elected as a Materials Research Society Fellow in 2013, a Royal Society of Chemistry (U.K) Fellow in 2014, an American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering Fellow in 2015, an American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellow in 2015, and a Singapore National Academy of Science Fellow in 2016.

She received the Brunei Crown Prince Creative, Innovative Product and Technological Advancement (CIPTA) Award, and the Medal of Honor from the Academy of Sciences of Iran in 2015. She was recognized with The Cooper Union Alumni Hall of Fame (2016), and Abdeali Tayebali Lifetime Achievement Award (2017).

Prof. Ying has over 170 primary patents granted or pending. One of the spin-off companies that she co-founded, SmartCells, Inc., has developed a technology platform that is capable of auto-regulating the release of insulin therapeutic depending on the blood glucose levels. Merck acquired SmartCells, Inc. in 2010, with milestone-based aggregate payments in excess of US$500 million to further develop this nanomedicine for clinical trials.

SK Ong, Advisor | Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in 1971, National University of Singapore

Ever since graduation in 1971, Mr SK Ong embarked on a journey to be a businessman. In 1979, he ventured to Brunei and formed joint ventures with prominent Brunei parties and operated construction and development companies.

In 1984 he ventured into China, commenced and managed several joint ventures and businesses including factories in Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuxi, Beijing with network companies across China.

Other than Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology, he has also managed Cosmeceutical, Healthcare and Supplement businesses. His companies have worked with large pharmaceutical distributors in China.

Over the years he has built up a huge network across many industries in China. He also invested in drug development in Hongkong and understands many regulatory requirements. In 1990 his companies ventured into Russia and had operations in Moscow, Novosibirsk and Vladivostok. Through the 1990s he owned several businesses in Malaysia and countries in ASEAN.

 He is currently Deputy Chairman of Skainom, a company he co-founded with Dr Richard Fan. Skainom has a vision to eradicate preventable blindness caused by Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), Age Macular Degeneration (AMD), Glaucoma or Cataract by deploying worldwide an eye screening system bundling a low cost fundus camera to a Skainom patented artificial intelligence auto grading system with a simple colour coding system to direct those in need of ophthalmological care to timely treatment.

He is also the Development Director and co-founder of Astral Nanotec, Astral Peptide and QS Tech, all of these companies are engaged in research and development of commercialisation of a suite of antibiotic resistance control (ARC) products which are able to overcome antibiotic resistance while maintaining a strong antimicrobial and anti-virulence effect.

Wong Yew Sin | M.Eng Environmental and Biochemical Engineering, University of Western Ontario, Canada

Mr.Wong Yew Sin had a long and illustrious career in the Singapore Public Service spanning nearly 40 years in the Scientific Service. He held various senior positions in the Department of Scientific Services, the Ministry of Health, the Institute of Science and Forensic Medicine, and the Health Sciences Authority.

In his current position as Advisor (Special Projects), he is responsible for providing advice on technology transfer activities, and product and process knowledge between licensing, development and manufacturing.  Prior to this appointment, he was the Director of the Centre for Medical Device Regulation, Health Sciences Authority. 

He received his BSc Hons (Applied Chemistry, 1969) from the University of Singapore and M Eng (1976) in environmental and biochemical engineering from the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Being involved in national-level standardization activity, he had served as a council member of the Singapore Standards Council and Vice-Chair of Medical Technology Standards Committee and was a past council member of the Singapore Accreditation Council.  He was also actively involved with regional regulators and industry partners in working towards harmonization of medical device regulations in ASEAN countries and the Asia Pacific region.

Jason Ng | Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, National University Singapore

Jason is the founder of E-Commerce Academy, a training institute that runs the highly accredited signature E-Commerce Action Programs. Jason Ng is a serial entrepreneur, international marketing specialist and a product marketing designer.

Jason’s prior appointments and experiences include the following:

Executive Director, Business Development – PAXELENT CORPORATION BERHAD (The Company was listed in the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange)

As Executive Director of Paxelent Corporation Berhad, in-charge of the Company’s local e-Govt services business in Malaysia as well as the Company’s business development in People’s Republic of China (PRC).

Jason helped to established business presence in Singapore, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong and opened new opportunities in the Middle East, Indonesia and Russia. Spearheaded and successfully completed the acquisition of Xiptech Holdings Pte Ltd, a precision engineering and machining organization in Wuxi-Spore Industrial Park, Jiangsu Province, PRC. 

Vice President – Sales and Marketing of XIPTECH HOLDINGS PTE LTD

As VP of Sales and Marketing, in charge of the Company’s local and international precision engineering business.  Major international customers include Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (HGST), Samsung Corp and Iomega Corp (USA).

Group General Manager – International Sales Goldtron China  

As Group General Manager of International Sales of Goldtron China,  Jason was responsible for the marketing, sales and distribution of electronics products – telecommunications, computers / multimedia system / printers, home automation and security systems in China and oversee the marketing and distribution in India, Europe, South Africa, Indonesia and Russia.

Marketing Manager – IBM SINGAPORE (The company is a US MNC for the Marketing and Servicing of Information Systems, advanced office systems, personal computers and professional services/ systems integration)

Upon graduation from the National University of Singapore (Business Administration) in the early 1990s, Jason worked with IBM Singapore as a Marketing Manager.

He was responsible for handling major accounts i.e. Housing Development Board (HDB), Central Provident Fund (CPF), Ministry of  Foreign Affairs (MFA) and NTUC Fair Price.

Barbara Ong | Bachelor Degree, Majoring in Psychology at University of Southern California (USC)

With 13 years of experience in an international operations Oil & Gas Exploration Company which operations in US, Europe, and South East Asia employing over 1500 employees. Ms. Barbara Ong has the experience to manage and bring the company to greater heights.

Ms. Ong’s prior appointments and experiences include the following:

Corporate Planning work including providing project leadership, developing and managing the implementation of processes in the CP cycle and management platforms.

Developing and incubating cross-department key projects as a group or project level for organizational design.

Performance monitoring and tracking, KPI formulation, target setting.

Provision of business services, office, management of office premises and equipment.

Recruitment for all positions including induction and talent management.

Provision of employee services like policies, staff welfare, grievance, and employee relations.
